So, two days ago was the wedding of Martin and Katherina. Yesterday, was the reenactment of the wedding with the children of Wittenberg. The parade was different in that the children of Wittenberg and surrounding communities participated in this one. Preschools, grammar schools, along with middle and upper school children participated in this parade. One child is picked to represent Katherina and another to represent Martin Luther. The children actually apply to become the next festival Luther and Katherina. It is quite the honor to be chosen. The festival and parade help the children to learn a bit about the historical events that took place here in Wittenberg centuries ago and the famous people who put their town on the map.
The Luther and Katherina Wedding Festival ended officially with the pomp and circumstance of the the drums and horns, along with a farewell speech from the current Mayor of Wittenberg to close the event. The official end comes when the wedding wreath is dropped from the pole and removed from the square.
Hope you enjoy these pictures from yesterday's event!
