"Help Me St. Anne, and I Will Become a Monk!"

Martin Luther made that vow to St. Anne on a road near Stotternhein when a bolt of lightning almost his him.  Luther had been studying law for a few weeks at the University of Erfurt and in a moment decided to become a monk.  Some historical scholars believe that perhaps the seed had been sown during his school years in Eisenach, where he lived with the highly religiouslCotta family, who had close ties to the Franciscan broutherhood.  However, he chose the Augustinian Monastary since it was conveniently there in Erfurt. Here he was ordained into the priesthood at the Erfurt Augustinian monastary at the Erfurt Cathedral where he held his first mass. Enjoy the pictures of this wonderful reformation city.
