Schlosskirche - All Saints' Church - Castle Church

Just where was Pastor Curtis yesterday?  He was at the the other famous church in Wittenberg called Schlosskirche.  So, if you answered that Pastor was at the Schlosskirche, you would be correct.  In the English, the translation would be Castle Church. The Castle Church was built 1489-1509 on the foiundaetion stones of the origial castle of the Elector of Saxony.  The church is also know by the title as All Saints' Church. A tower was eventually built which has a portion of Luther's famous hymn "A Mighty Fortress Is our God," is written around the circumferance of the tower. You'll see some pictures of the inside of the tower.

In the pictures below, you will see the grave markers of Martin Luther, located under that pulpit where his remains were buried and Phillip Melancthon is buried under the lecturn on the opposite side of the chancel.  Statues of famous Protestant religious and political leaders are found throughout the sanctuary.  The most photographed site in Wittenberg are the famous 95 Thesis doors that are located on the one side of the church.  The event of Martin Lutheran attaching his famous 95 thesis document is considered the act that launched the reformation.  This door and the two grave markers can  be seen below.

Where's Pastor?
